Greetings Members

July Update Come Harvest!

It's almost August and the produce is busting off the plants. If you have any time to come harvest, please come by. We have tomatoes, ground cherries, peppers, long beans, pole beans and eggplant. The Okra is on the way and a few herbs are still happening. We are giving free food to the residents of Spanish Lake weekly. If you have any neighbors who are home-bound come pick some for them. We are working on getting a list together so we can start a senior distribution program. For sign up we need name address and email. Help us spread the word.

We have a new worker (Mariah) in the garden and on the farm!  She has been helping with the daily activities. She's great with the animals and we are THRILLED to have someone else here regularly. She is an exceptional young lady. Now we can focus on the programs that are in the works to serve the community more deeply and effectively.

My Time in the Garden by Mariah Reinecke

On July 28th, early morning I began working as a farmhand for Rustic Roots, which also happened to be my 21st birthday. With the hum of nature around me as I kept my hands busy at the weeds, it had quickly become one of my favorite birthday mornings ever. The task at hand was simple enough, clearing thickets of weeds to take pressure off our pepper plants, but in a very un-simple time of life it was exactly what I needed. Since that morning I’ve continued working on weeding, harvesting, learning more details of the plants/animals, and enjoying the simplicity of getting back what you give. When working, it become obvious very quickly that Janett and Eric have given a lot to Rustic Roots, and what came from it is nothing short of a small haven for anyone willing to come.

If you are getting cabin fever come by. It's been hot and humid but the next week should be really nice. We are observing CDC guidelines just bring your mask. There is plenty of room to social distance.

We hope you are staying safe at home and wearing your mask when taking necessary outings. We have only had a few members come out and we miss you! We are looking forward to the time when we can come together in the garden again.

As always, thank you for sharing our mission.
